Resilient connectivity
This project explores the diverse urban environment of Lower Manhattan, known for its blend of history, commerce, and culture. Through a detailed analysis, the project identified challenges such as connectivity issues and flood risks as some of the major issues in the Lower East Side in comparison to the other coast in lower Manhattan, Battery park. The goal was to restructure the public realm by integrating social, economic, and environmental strategies. Using a game based approach focused on Two Bridges and the Lower East Side, the project aimed to enhance accessibility, promote active transportation, and implement flood resilience measures within budget constraints. The project utilized AI to understand city fabrics and proposed a grid-like network with porous placement and mass, allowing for light, greenery, and modularity while addressing predicted flood zones. The ultimate aim was to develop a modular residential proposal that could be applied along coastlines or in similar risk-prone areas, incorporating strategies for flood prevention while addressing social challenges, with a focus on the land and the water relation ship.
